Job Description

Port Qasim Authority is seeking a skilled and experienced Marine Engineer to join our team. The Marine Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of marine vessels and infrastructure within the port.

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of marine engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment on port vessels, including tugboats, pilot boats, and dredgers.
  2. Conduct regular inspections and surveys of vessel machinery, identifying and addressing mechanical issues, and implementing preventive maintenance measures to ensure reliability and performance.
  3. Coordinate with port management, vessel operators, and maintenance teams to schedule and prioritize repair and maintenance activities, minimizing downtime and maximizing operational efficiency.
  4. Supervise and provide technical guidance to marine engineering staff, including engineers, technicians, and mechanics, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  5. Develop and implement maintenance procedures, checklists, and work instructions for marine equipment and systems, ensuring adherence to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
  6. Monitor fuel consumption, engine performance, and environmental emissions of port vessels, implementing measures to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
  7. Conduct risk assessments and safety audits of marine operations and equipment, identifying hazards and implementing controls to mitigate risks and ensure a safe working environment.
  8. Liaise with classification societies, flag administrations, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with maritime regulations, standards, and certification requirements.
  9. Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis for marine accidents, incidents, or near misses, identifying lessons learned and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  10. Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in marine engineering, participating in training and professional development activities as needed.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree or professional certification is preferred.
  2. Proven experience in marine engineering roles, with a minimum of X years of experience in ship maintenance, repair, and operations.
  3. Strong knowledge of marine propulsion systems, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and auxiliary machinery.
  4. Proficiency in technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics for marine equipment and systems.
  5. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues under pressure.
  6. Leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate and inspire a team, foster teamwork, and promote a culture of safety and excellence.
  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  8. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and maintenance management systems.
  9. Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by operational needs.
  10. Valid marine engineering license or certification, in accordance with national and international regulations.
