Job Description

Port Qasim Authority is seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to fill the position of Manager (Hydrography). As the Manager (Hydrography), you will be responsible for leading hydrographic surveying operations to ensure safe navigation and efficient port operations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, organize, and oversee hydrographic survey projects to accurately map and chart the seafloor, harbor, and navigational channels within the port area.
  2. Lead a team of hydrographic surveyors and technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality survey data collection and processing.
  3. Utilize advanced surveying equipment and software to conduct bathymetric surveys, side-scan sonar surveys, and other hydrographic measurements.
  4. Analyze survey data to produce accurate and up-to-date nautical charts, depth maps, and other navigational aids for use by port stakeholders, including vessel operators and maritime authorities.
  5. Collaborate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to address hydrographic survey requirements and ensure compliance with international standards and regulations.
  6. Conduct regular inspections and assessments of navigational aids, such as buoys and beacons, to verify their accuracy and effectiveness in guiding vessels safely through the port.
  7. Develop and implement maintenance plans for hydrographic survey equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  8. Provide technical expertise and support to port management and other stakeholders on hydrographic matters, including dredging projects, port expansion plans, and environmental impact assessments.
  9. Stay informed about advances in hydrographic surveying technology and best practices to continuously improve survey methodologies and data quality.
  10. Prepare reports, presentations, and other documentation to communicate survey findings, recommendations, and project updates to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics Engineering, Oceanography, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  2. Professional certification or licensure in hydrographic surveying is highly desirable.
  3. Proven experience in hydrographic surveying operations, with a minimum of X years in a leadership or managerial role.
  4. Strong knowledge of hydrographic surveying techniques, equipment, and data processing software.
  5. Proficiency in the use of surveying instruments, including multibeam echo sounders, GPS receivers, and data processing software (e.g., CARIS, HYPACK).
  6. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team and collaborate with stakeholders.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  8. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  9. Knowledge of international standards and regulations related to hydrographic surveying and maritime navigation.
  10. Experience in the maritime industry or port operations is advantageous but not required.
